Talk Is Free Theatre’senhanced Summer Day Camp, held at a new location
Barrie, ON - Talk Is Free Theatre (TIFT) announced today several improvements to its Summer Theatre Day Camp Camp. In order to better serve the many youngsters eagerly wanting to “be a star” there will be five weekly rotating sessions, one for 6-9 year olds and one for 10-14 year olds. Each new session will begin every Monday starting on July 28, 2008, and operate Monday to Friday from 9AM to 4PM.
All sessions are taught by TIFT’s professional actors and each session culminates in a final production for participants’ friends and family. In addition to the performance element, campers will learn about lighting, make-up, sets and costumes.
Some of the improvements include the relocation to the new facility, the Huronia Arts Academy, at 25 Toronto St., a beautiful arts centre with proximity to both a park and the waterfront. TIFT will also reduce the maximum weekly enrolment to 25 registrations; and will make available both the pre-day and post-day care for a modest additional fee.
“Our camps are one of the most successful and growing areas of the organization,” said Artistic Producer Arkady Spivak. “With that comes an added pressure of meeting and exceeding the growing expectations. I hope that our planned improvements is a testament that we take education very seriously here at TIFT.”
The cost is $170 per week per child.
Registrations can be made by calling TIFT Box Office at (705) 792-1949 or in person at Suite 516- 80 Bradford St. (Barrie by the Bay) during regular business hours.

Talk Is Free Theatre announces
an Expanded 7th Season
Barrie, ON - In preparation for its new permanent home in downtown Barrie, Talk Is Free Theatre officially announced its 2008 – 2009 Season today. TIFT will expand its programming to seven productions, including three musicals to be performed in concert format at a larger facility.
“This year our company will try something new and something big…we will perform four mainstage productions in the new downtown theatre, but we will also take our audiences to a larger venue for three unique and unforgettable musicals-in-concert,” said Arkady Spivak , Artistic Producer. “I am very proud of the diversity of our programming – which includes a dedication to Canadian content, premieres of all sorts, Broadway classics and undiscovered gems. I am also very happy to be able to amplify our dedication to musical theatre by using full orchestras for our concert presentations.”
The season will begin with a concert version of the Broadway Classic, Kiss Me, Kate with music and lyrics by Cole Porter and book by Samuel and Bella Spewack. With an orchestra of 19 and a cast of 16, this show will sparkle with 18 classic Cole Porter songs – including “Another Op'nin', Another Show,” “So in Love,” “Too Darn Hot,” and “Brush Up Your Shakespeare.” Kiss Me, Kate will be staged in concert at the Gryphon Theatre on November 5th and 6th, 2008 for a total of four performances.
Variations on A Nervous Breakdown – is a hilarious, yet surprisingly touching musical by Jonathan Monro about people living on the verge. This World Premiere production will open TIFT’s operation at the new 120-seat permanent facility in Barrie. It will run from November 27th to December 6th, 2008 .
Kiss of the Spider Woman, a daring musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Terrence McNally about two men – a window dresser and a socialist rebel – who are forced to share a jail cell. Reconceived for an intimate production, the musical will run from January 22nd to 31st, at the new downtown theatre.
The season will continue on the mainstage with the North American Premiere of the comedy, Standing Tall (Los Arboles Muerren De Pie), by Argentinean playwright Alejandro Casona. Written in 1949, this life-affirming work is about an elderly couple and group of selfless people who are members of a secret organization whose mission is to help humankind by unusual means. This beautiful play probes the notion of truth – is it merely a collection of facts or is it an expression of generosity and kindness? Standing Tall will run from February 26th to March 7th, 2009 .
Rob Roy, the Canadian Premiere of a new Canadian musical by David Warrack based on the legendary Scottish hero, Robert Roy MacGregor, from the late 17th and early 18th centuries will be performed in concert for four performances on March 25th and 26th, 2009.
It will be followed by the concert production of another Canadian musical, Napoleon with book and lyrics by Andrew Sabiston and book and music by Timothy Williams. Napoleon , Canada ’s answer to mega-musical, is a musical as big as the man it is about. Napoleon shaped modern Europe , recast France and its institutions, spent millions of Francs and hundreds of thousands of lives, loved passionately and lost bitterly the Empress Joséphine. Napoleon will be performed on April 16th, 17th and 18th, 2009 for a total of five performances.
The season will end with a tour de force from the Canadian playwright and actor Darrell Dennis, Tales of an Urban Indian. It is the semi-autobiographical tale about a contemporary First Nations male, born on a reserve in British Columbia in the 1970s and raised both on the reserve and in the City of Vancouver. Performances are from May 7th to May 16th, 2009 .
Creative teams, principal casting and locations of performances are soon to be announced.
Early-bird subscriptions and flexible four-ticket packages are available starting at $100 until May 3, 2008 after which regular subscription rates will apply. Group bookings are also available in a variety of packages. Single tickets will be available starting on September 1, 2008.
